Permanent Residence Sponsorship at Portland State
A foreign national employee who is recruited and appointed by PSU in a permanent position must eventually obtain permanent resident status in order to legally live and work in the United States on a permanent basis. Under the provisions of U.S. immigration law, the university may sponsor certain eligible international faculty and academic researchers for permanent residence via a petition to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
PSU uses the following two employment-based preference categories to sponsor qualified individuals for permanent residence:
PSU will only sponsor individuals who are in a tenure-track or permanent position at PSU and whose sponsorship is expressly supported by their hiring department. Please see policies and procedures for more information.
