Surrounded by a castle and cathedral dating back to the twelfth and thirteenth centuries, discover the heart of France in Angers. Experience the best of the medieval and the modern in this colorful city nestled in the beautiful Loire Valley. Stroll down cobblestone streets, explore beautiful gardens, and visit museums. Take the high-speed train to Paris, just an hour and a half to the northeast. Study on the campus of the Universite Catholique de l’Ouest, close to the city center. Immerse yourself in French life and culture. Students choose between the French Immersion and the Language & Culture Program.
Program Focus
French Immersion:
Ideal for French majors and minors, this program appeals to students from many disciplines with courses in history, sociology, political science, French culture, and civilization. Classes take place at the international language institute (CIDEF) of the Universite Catholique de l’Ouest. CIDEF is recognized as a leader in language education for students of all levels. Each session during the academic year, a visiting U.S. faculty member teaches one course incorporating specially designed excursions in the surrounding region.
Language & Culture:
This program is designed for students interested in learning French and more about French culture, politics and society. French language is offered to students with beginning-level French up to a maximum of first year college-level French. The program also appeals to students from many disciplines with courses in history, sociology, political science, and French culture and civilization. Students will study at the international language institute (CIDEF) of the Université Catholique de l’Ouest located near the city center. French language courses are taken with U.S. and other international students; participants will also select from several courses taught in English just for AHA students, incorporating specially designed excursions in the surrounding region.
