Barcelona is one of Europe’s larger cities (fairly compact in area but with a population of nearly four million) right on the Mediterranean Sea in the Northeast corner of Spain about 100 miles south of the border with France. Like many other European cities, it has a very long history which literally surrounds you, the prime example being the Gothic Quarter near the beautifully redeveloped harbor, which is the largest surviving medieval quarter in Europe.
ALBA’s elective courses are primarily in the areas of Humanities and Social Sciences and are usually taught in English. The exception is Spanish (or Catalan) language, which is a required course, carrying four semester credits (six quarter credits). Most students take Spanish and two electives for a total of ten semester (equals sixteen quarter) credits per term, which amounts to thirty semester or forty-eight quarter credits for an academic year.
