Uppsala, with a population of 125,000, is Sweden’s fourth-largest city and lies approximately 70 km north of Stockholm. Combining the opportunities found in a large city with the intimacy of a small town, Uppsala is an attractive destination for students who want to learn firsthand about Swedish history and culture. The city traces its roots back to Viking times and has been considered the religious center of Sweden since the establishment of a Christian archdiocese in the 12th century. Uppsala is known for its connection to the Nobel Prize and has become the home to various leading companies in the field of biotechnology.
The goals of the Arts and Sciences program are for students to develop an understanding of Swedish society and culture while enrolling in a variety of rigorous academic courses at one of the premier universities in Scandinavia. Through coursework at Uppsala University, participation in University activities, and program excursions and activities, students gain valuable insight into Sweden’s past and present while having a rewarding academic experience.
