Through this program students have the opportunity to explore Spain’s majestic northern coast in the region of Cantabria, while perfecting their Spanish. The University of Cantabria offers OUS students a unique opportunity to devote a term (10 weeks) to intensive Spanish language learning and culture.
The University of Cantabria is located in the city of Santander, a port and resort town on the northern coast of Spain. It is the capital of the Autonomous Region of Cantabria, one of Spain’s “green” provinces. Nestled in the north of the Iberian Peninsula amongst the communities of Castile and Leon, Asturias and the Basque Country, it is located on the Bay of Biscay. Surrounded by beautiful beaches, Santander is also very near the Cantabrian Mountain Range, which includes the picturesque “Peaks of Europe.” The location allows for a mild, year round climate for various outdoor activities. Santander offers a wide range of leisure activities such as museums, parks, theatres, excursions and various sports.
For this intensive language program all classes are taught in Spanish and offer study in the areas of grammar, writing, oral skills, reading and culture. As part of the culture class, students will take four field trips to various locations. Students participating in this program will be registered at PSU and will receive approximately 16 upper-division Spanish credits for courses taken at the University of Cantabria.
