The PSU School of Business Administration offers the Summer Business in Europe Program in Marseille, France, in cooperation with the Euromed-Marseille Graduate School of Business Marseille-Provence. This Graduate program gives students a unique opportunity to experience European business culture and practices first-hand through 8 credits (2 courses) of coursework, offered in English, in an intensive three-week summer study abroad program.

During the trip, Dr. Taylor will teach the International Management course and will team teach the finance course together with faculty members from Euromed professors who have extensive industry experience and specialize in doing business in Europe and the Mediterranean area. The oldest city in France, Marseille is located on the south coast at the center the French Riviera. Built at the mouth of the Rhone River on the Mediterranean Sea, this city has been central to international trade for over 26 centuries. Its rich history and prime location make it an exciting place to spend part of the summer and the ideal place to experience international business at its European roots.

Program Focus

Course Information:

  • MGMT 546: Principles of International Management 4 cr.
  • FIN 556: International Financial Management 4 cr.

FIN 556 counts toward an MBA+ Finance concentration. Also, both classes offered in Marseille count toward the MBA+ International Business concentration. Additionally, the Marseille classes may also be applicable to other MBA+ concentrations as well as MSFA electives.

Draft Itinerary:

Prior to departing, participants will attend a program orientation in Portland on Saturday, May 11th from 9am – 1pm to go over cultural expectations, trip logistics, and general questions. Students and faculty will be expected to arrive in Marseille prior to the first day of class on June 17th. Upon arrival, participants will meet on the Euromed (Les Docs) campus on June 17th for a welcome and introduction to the courses. While in Marseille, participants will spend the majority of their days on the Euromed campus attending classes and guest lecturers from Euromed faculty. There will also be a couple of afternoon visits to local businesses in the area and a targeted field research project around Marseille one afternoon.

Participants will attend classes for periods of 4-5 days and then have free days in order to experience cultural sites and attractions. In addition, all evenings are free and participants will be responsible for their own meals throughout the trip. Unless traveling elsewhere in France or Europe, participants will likely depart from Marseille to return to Portland on July 6th.

Pre-Requisites

  • SBA Graduate students only (with some exceptions)
  • GPA: 3.0 and above
  • Open to select undergraduate seniors. Undergraduate students must have completed BA 303 to qualify. FIN 319 is strongly recommended. Undergraduate Finance Majors preferred.
  • The order in which applications are completed and received will be taken into consideration if the program is nearing capacity. PLEASE APPLY EARLY. Incomplete applications will diminish your chances of being accepted into the program.
