The following study abroad scholarship opportunities are offered by foundations and organizations outside PSU. Click on the links for more information and application details.

AHA International Scholarships

Scholarship awards are available for students studying at the following AHA program sites: Angers, Athens, Macerata, Morelia (including summer program), London, and Vienna. Awards range between $500 – $1,500.

Boren Scholarships and Fellowships

Boren Scholarships and Fellowships (also known as NSEP scholarships) are available for undergraduate and graduate study in countries of priority to U.S. national security, largely focusing on the Middle East, Asia, and Africa. Note that Boren awards include a service obligation. Information sessions will be held on the PSU campus during Fall Term. Bridging Scholarships for Study in Japan

The Association of Teachers of Japanese Bridging Project offers scholarships to American undergraduate students participating in study-abroad programs in Japan. Undergraduate students majoring in any field of study are eligible to apply for these scholarships. Japanese language study is not a prerequisite. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents and must be enrolled as undergraduates in a college or university in the United States before and during the time they are studying abroad.

CIEE Programs Scholarships

CIEE offers scholarships for students who are admitted into a CIEE-sponsored study abroad program. Students may apply for several scholarships at once, using CIEE’s scholarship application. Award amounts range between $500 – $8,000.

Fulbright scholarships

There are actually several different Fulbright scholarship programs, all of which are described on the IIE’s site. Fulbright Student programs are for graduating seniors, graduate students, and alumni; Fulbright Scholar programs are for university faculty and international education administrators; the Fulbright Teacher Exchange is for currently-employed K-12 and community college teachers.

Gilman Scholarships

Provides assistance for undergraduates with financial need to use for study abroad. GTOS Study Abroad Scholarships

This scholarship is unlike most conventional scholarships because applicants are judged based on their innovation and reasoning. They wanted to take a new/fresh approach to financial aid, and allow students to be creative while expressing a compelling and well-substantiated argument. This is a general study abroad scholarship – not program specific, and there is not a minimum time frame for the student’s length of travel. The scholarship award is for $2000.

IFSA-Butler Study Abroad Scholarships

IFSA-Butler offers scholarships for students who are admitted into an IFSA-Butler-sponsored study abroad program. Students may apply for several scholarships at once, using IFSA-Butler’s scholarship application. Award amounts range between $500 – $5,000.

International Research and Exchanges Board

Non-profit organization generally offering grants for study abroad in Eastern Europe.

Minority International Research Training Grant

Program of the Fogarty International Center, National Institutes of Health, sends minority undergraduates and medical students abroad to do health-related research.

Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grants

Offers $1000 grants for undergraduates with high academic achievement (GPA’s of above 3.5). Click here for more details

Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarships

The Rotary Foundation provides the largest single US scholarship program for study abroad. Scholarships are available for all levels of study, from high-school, undergraduate and graduate students to alumni and professionals. Generally not for use with study abroad programs sponsored by US institutions. Application possible only through local Rotary Clubs. Deadlines (locally-determined) may be as much as one and one-half years in advance. Web site provides scholarship information and lists Rotary Clubs worldwide.

SIT Study Abroad Scholarships

SIT offers scholarships for students who are admitted into a SIT-sponsored study abroad program. Students may apply for several scholarships at once, using SIT’s scholarship application. Award amounts range between $300 – $5,000.

Woodrow Wilson International Fellowship Foundation

Information on several multi-year scholarship programs for students, especially minorities, interested in international careers.
