Middle East Languages
PSU has strong language programs through the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures in Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, and Turkish.
Arabic
The Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures offers courses in Arabic language and literature leading to a minor in Arabic language. The Arabic program includes four years of modern standard Arabic, common spoken Arabic, and advanced coursework in classical modern Arabic poetry, folk literature of the Arabs, and translation of major Arabic works. In addition, the program offers a special course on media Arabic. Arabic language courses are offered year round including the summer session.
Hebrew
Two years of modern Hebrew are offered.
Persian
Three years of Persian language instruction are offered to beginning level students.
Turkish
Two years of Turkish language instruction are offered in addition to several culture classes. A third year of Turkish is available based on demand. Additional levels of language instruction are also available through Independent Study.
In addition to the above courses, Pashto language instruction is offered as part of the Heritage Language Initiative at PSU.
