Welcoming a World of Knowledge
Every year PSU welcomes over 300 international visiting scholars and faculty to teach, conduct research and collaborate in academic activities with PSU faculty and students.
PSU academic departments are involved in the invitation of each visiting scholar or professor. Scholars and departments identify a mutual interest in collaboration in a research or teaching area. Scholars may be self-funded, funded by an organization or sponsor or paid by Portland State University. ISSS advises departments and scholars on immigration matters, issues visa documents, and provides information and guidance on a wide range of issues about the visiting international status and permanent residence at PSU.
Prospective visiting international scholars or faculty may wish to contact a specific department here at Portland State to describe research interests and whether or not there may be a mutual interest in collaboration. Once an appropriate department match is identified and the department wishes to host or sponsor an international visitor, the department contacts ISSS to begin the visa process.
