Great Success of the 33rd Annual International Night
International Students celebrated its 33rd annual International Night
One World. One Flag. One Night.
This year’s International Night drew record numbers as the annual event spilled out of the Multicultural Center and filled the halls of the Smith Memorial Student Union. The event began with a large feast, featuring cuisines from around the world and over 20 cultural exhibits.
From there, attendees moved upstairs into the ballroom for the event’s entertainment, which started with a greeting via a digital video recording from Portland State President Wim Wiewel
and welcoming remarks by Gil Latz, Vice Provost for International Affairs.
It continued with:
Vietnamese Song
Filipino Song
Indian Hindi Jawani Soul
Bhangra Dance
Guatemalan Guitar
African Traditional Dance
Spanish Tango
German Rap
International Fashion Show with over 70 volunteers
Hip Hop Dancers
Nepali Dance
Pacific Islanders
Japanese Traditional Dance
United Emirates Association
and culminating with a performance from the Lions of Batucada
It was a wonderful showcase of cultures!
International Night is an annual celebration of the international diversity at Portland State University. It offers a great opportunity for the PSU students, families, faculty, staff and the greater Portland community to experience the different traditions, costumes, foods, and music that PSU?s 1,600 international students have to offer.
This year students from over 88 countries participated in this event.
