The Fall 2011 Lecture Series

The Confucius Institute at PSU is pleased to present the events scheduled for the Lecture Series, Events, and Activities Program this Fall 2011. Among the events scheduled:

1. Friday, September 9, 2011, , 6:30-8:00 PM in SBA 490 (631 SW Harrison Street, Portland, OR 97201):
Lecture: The Past, Present and Future of Traditional Chinese Medicine by Dr. GAO Wenyuan, Chair and
Professor, Department of Natural Products and TCM, School of Pharmaceutical Science and Technology,
Tianjin University.
2. Friday, September 16, 2011, 6:30-8:00 PM in SBA 490 (631 SW Harrison Street, Portland, OR 97201):
1) presentation on the tradition and legend of the Moon Festival; 2) 2011 China-Bridge Summer Campers’
PPT presentation with pictures and video clips about their exciting summer trip in China; 3) enjoying
delicious moon cakes.

Lecture Recitals: A Study of Ethnic Minority Music of Southern China by Professor Chen Jiayou,

Xiaoping and the Transformation of China by Ezra Vogel, Professor of the Social Sciences Emeritus at
Harvard University and author of Biography of Deng Xiaoping (this event is co-organized with Institute for

97201): Lecture: “Learning Cycles, Instructional Cycles, And the Confucian Pleasure” by Professor
Galal Walker of Ohio State University. The event is open to all Chinese language teachers and general
public.
14. Sunday, December 4, 2011, 9:00 AM-12:00 PM in SBA Classrooms (631 SW Harrison Street, Portland,
OR 97201): Chinese Proficiency HSK Test (Rooms to be assigned for each level and type)

  • Chinese corner time for 1/2 hour before each regular program begins.
    Note: All the above scheduled events are subject to change with notice. Flyer for each event will be sent out at
    least one week before the date of each event.
