International Student Scholarships Awarded
In honor of exceptional academic achievement, Portland State University recognized today 2008-2009 international scholarship recipients representing 35 countries!
The International Achievement Scholarship is awarded to approximately 30 incoming undergraduate students on the basis of their academic achievement. Students who maintain high academic standing may receive renewed funding for up to four years. Eligible students must have entering grade point averages (GPA) of at least 3.5 out of a possible 4.0 grading scale.
Students who have not yet met the TOEFL/English Language Proficiency requirement are eligible for this scholarship; however, activation of the scholarship will be delayed until after the ESL restriction has been lifted and the students are fully eligible for unrestricted enrollment in academic classes. Master’s and doctoral applicants may be eligible for this scholarship depending on funding availability.
International Student Scholarship
Recipients receive a $1000 tuition waiver for a maximum of six terms and are chosen by a university committee on the basis of financial need and academic scholarship. Applicants may be either graduate or undergraduate students who maintain a 3.0 GPA. To apply you must submit the application (PDF), a statement of purpose, and letters of support (see guidelines (DOC)) to ISSS. Approximately 30 scholarships are awarded.
International Cultural Service Program
Recipients receive a partial tuition waiver in exchange for performing 80 hours of cultural service each academic year. Cultural service usually takes the form of presentations to school and community groups. Scholarships are awarded to undergraduates and graduates for the duration of their programs. Awards may only be applied to one degree program.
To apply you must submit the application (PDF) and 2 letters of reference. Interviews or trial presentations will be conducted before the final decision is made. Applications are accepted continuously and must be received by the deadlines listed above for consideration in the following term. Approximately 25 scholarships are awarded.
