Meet Professor Berrin Erdogan
Middle East Studies Center faculty spotlight
In an increasingly globalized marketplace, creating a cohesive work environment for employees of diverse backgrounds is more important than ever. In the School of Business Administration, Professor Berrin Erdogan teaches courses on organizational behavior and managing global human resources.
Born in Turkey, Dr Erdogan has studied organizational behavior in industries ranging from textiles to mining to food distribution. Her research includes employee effectiveness, retention, and well-being as well as understanding the implications of over qualification in the workplace.
Dr Erdogan has coauthored two textbooks on organizational behavior and principles of management, which are used in graduate and undergraduate classes in over 100 universities around the world. Organizational Behavior received the 2011 Text and Academic Authors Association Textbook Excellence Award.
Erdogan was recently appointed Associate Editor for the European Journal of Work and Organizational Psychology. The journal takes a global perspective organizational psychology. “Working with EJWOP will directly put me in touch with scholars and scholarship originating from around the world, which is bound to trickle down to my research and teaching,” Erdogan said. “I will also represent PSU and the United States among an international community of scholars. I see this as a great learning opportunity, as well as an exciting change.”
Professor Erdogan received her Ph. D. in Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resources Management at University of Illinois in Chicago in 2002. She completed her M.S in Behavioral Sciences from Istanbul University in 1997 and her B.S in Business Admin from Bogazici University in Istanbul in 1994.
Dr Erdogan has been at Portland State since 2002 and is an affiliated member of the Middle East Studies Center’s faculty.
